We thank you for having surrounded us with confidence. In these times of hardship, many have helped us financially. Please also remember: it is not the size of the donation that counts.
Dear friends of the Foreign Mission,
It is with great joy that we announce to all the launch of the official website of the Orthodox Holy Metropolis of Madagascar. By the grace of God and the blessing of His Divine Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodore II we have created this website for the benefit and information of all our friends and all those around the world who are interested in our Foreign Christian Mission. On this website, you will have the opportunity to become acquainted with all the activities of our Mission in the fields of both missionary and philanthropic work. Information and any subsequent updates posted on this site may be considered reliable since their source is the website of the Holy Metropolis of Madagascar.
By the grace of God, the work of the Mission has expanded greatly and is continuing to expanding into most areas of Madagascar. Churches are continually being built in remote areas in order to cater for the newly created parishes, and neophytes coming to the Orthodox religion are made members of the Church of Christ through the sacrament of Baptism.
The Ecclesiastical Seminary of the Metropolis operates normally, and the graduation of new priests and catechists cater for many of the vacancies in the newly established parishes. With the blessing of His Divine Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodore II, new priests are ordained and take up their spiritual duties.
The translation of liturgical and spiritual texts into the local language is an ongoing process that is conducted for the spiritual benefit of our Christian followers. The presence of the Holy Spirit is active in all our actions and activities and leads us in our missionary efforts.
At the same time as our missionary work, we also carry out social work that is essential in this country.
For example, morning milk is provided to poor children, as well as food for poor families. There are 17 fee free schools, which cater for lower, middle, and senior levels; as well as 5 medical centres, which provide free health care and prescriptions. There is an old people's home for elderly men and women. There are garment schools for cutting, sewing, and embroidery, which give young girls the opportunity to learn a skill and hence make a living. We also frequently visit villages to distribute clothing and other essential necessities to the poor, and we often visit schools as well, where we distribute stationery to the children. Additionally, we cover many other needs, for instance: hospitalization of the sick, the rents of poor families, and in some cases, we provide financial aid to helpless and vulnerable people.
The needs of the Mission are many: both in terms of people and material because the missionary work is continually expanding and creating new parishes. We cannot but mention the fullness of the self-sacrificial contribution to the Mission by the volunteers, the clergy and the lay people from Greece, Cyprus, and Australia. We should also not forget the self-sacrifice of the teams of doctors who offer their services free of charge to the poor in the remote villages.
Warm thanks to all our friends of the Mission, both the clergy and the lay people, who are either indirectly involved in the work of the Mission or who by their presence in Madagascar directly embrace the work of the Church.
May the blessing of God be upon you.
+ Ignatios of Madagascar
